Rovers Ladies ran out comfortable 6-2 winners over Derby County to keep their FA Women’s Premier League title charge firmly on track.
Captain Lynda Shepherd and winger Lagan Makin both bagged a brace, while Natasha Flint and Jess Holbrook completed the scoring.
Rovers started as they would mean to go on and opened the scoring after just eight minutes when Flint cut in from the right before unleashing a powerful effort inside Sarah Morgan’s near post.
Just five minutes later and Rovers doubled their lead in fortuitous circumstances as Makin charged down a defender’s clearance, before the ball looped back over the goalkeeper for the host’s second.
The game was all but over as a contest with just 15 minutes on the clock when Shepherd rose highest to head home from a corner to make it 3-0. Holbrook then hit the post moments later.
Derby pulled a goal back just before the half-hour mark when a long-range effort bounced off the bar and went in off Danielle Hill’s back, before Holbrook dribbled past three Derby players to drill home Rovers’ fourth before the break.
After the interval, Saffron Jordan was brought down in the box and Shepherd made no mistake from the spot for number five and Rovers added a sixth on 73 minutes when Makin finished first time from the edge of the area after a clinical counter.
Rovers gifted the Rams a second at the death, as they were caught trying to play out from the back, which presented Kirsty Allen with a simple tap-in, but the three points were already firmly in the bag, as Gemma Donnelly’s side secured a fourth straight league win.
